What is Yarmunheim?

Yarmunheim is a tactical, card-based board game set in a harsh northern world, where careful drafting and clever manoeuvring decide victory.

Each game begins with the choice of a Hero, the only guaranteed card in your deck. Every other card is selected through a shared draft, forcing players to adapt, read their opponents, and forge a strategy from limited options.

Yarmunheim’s first set introduces four distinct archetypes, each defined by a unique playstyle and strategic identity.

During the draft, players can acquire three types of cards:

  • Units form the backbone of most decks, providing board presence and a wide range of tactical effects.

  • Actions offer powerful, one-time effects that can turn the tide of battle when played at the right moment.

  • Items are the rarest cards. Once played, they remain on the board, granting unique and enduring abilities that can reshape the game.

Master the draft. Command the battlefield. Outmanoeuvre your opponent.

Is Yarmunheim for you?

If you enjoy tactical board games or trading card games, you will feel right at home in Yarmunheim: Draft & Play, especially if you value high replayability and a smooth, approachable learning curve.

A match of Yarmunheim: Draft & Play ends when one player’s Hero is defeated, or when a player is left with no cards remaining in their deck.

Victory belongs to those who adapt, endure, and outmanoeuvre their opponent.

About me and my background

My name is Eric Kristensen, and I study Computer Science and Design in Germany. A nerd and geek through and through, I’ve spent years immersed in trading card games and board games of all kinds.

The idea for Yarmunheim: Draft & Play dates back to the summer of 2022. After playing TCGs almost exclusively for nearly 5 years, I found myself without a game that truly held my interest. Rather than searching for the next one, I decided to create it myself.

Drawing on my background in game design from university, I began shaping my own vision. Nearly four years later, the core gameplay systems and overall design of Yarmunheim: Draft & Play are complete.

What makes better Yarmunheim than other games?

In Yarmunheim: Draft & Play, you don’t simply place units onto the board. You maneuver them into attack range, contest territory, and strategically hold chokepoints to control the flow of battle.

Damage is not fixed. Instead, attacks resolve within a damage range, creating more dynamic and involved gameplay while reducing the pure numbers game found in many traditional card games.
